Hollace D. Chastain II, M.D.

Dr. Hollace Chastain joined Fort Wayne Cardiology in 2001 after 11 years in the U.S. Navy in San Diego, serving as clinical instructor in cardiology and director of the coronary care unit and cardiac catheterization lab. He specializes in interventional cardiology and peripheral- and carotid-disease management, including the newly developed field of carotid stenting.

Career highlights

• Pioneer in the early days of carotid stenting at University of Alabama, Birmingham, where he worked with the nation’s leader in carotid stenting, Dr. Gary Roubin. He continued this work in Fort Wayne, working with the industry to obtain FDA approval for carotid stenting as an alternative to surgery.
•  Fellow of the American College of Cardiology and the Society for Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions.
• Founding member of the Society of Cardiovascular Computed Tomography.
• Co-author of multiple scientific papers. He continues active clinical research through the Parkview Research Center.

Education

• Earned a bachelor’s degree in biological sciences from Franklin College.
• Graduated from the Indiana University School of Medicine.
• Completed his internship and residency in internal medicine at Naval Medical Center San Diego.
• Completed general cardiology and interventional training at Naval Medical Center San Diego, University of California, San Diego, and Sharp Memorial Hospital, San Diego.
• Completed advanced interventional-cardiology training with advanced training and research in carotid stenting and peripheral arterial diagnosis and treatment at the University of Alabama, Birmingham.
• Board certification in internal medicine, cardiovascular disease, and interventional cardiology.
